Air Canada is opening three new routes into Honduras and Guatemala for the 2026-27 winter season, two into Roatan and one from Toronto to Guatemala City that Air Canada describes as the only nonstop on the route. If your hotel serves Canadian travelers, or wants to start, the booking window opens now, months before the first flights land in December.
The new routes
Roatan is one of four entirely new airports joining Air Canada's winter network, with weekly Saturday service from Montreal and weekly Sunday service from Toronto through mid-April. The Toronto to Guatemala City route is the bigger structural change: weekly Thursday flights on an Airbus A330-300, planned as year-round, with Air Canada's published summer schedule showing service continuing from May 6, 2027 as flight AC1300/1301. The new route follows the Montreal to Guatemala City service that began in October 2025 and is extending toward year-round operation.
| Route | Frequency | Season |
|---|---|---|
| Montreal (YUL) to Roatan (RTB) | Weekly on Saturdays | December 12, 2026 to April 10, 2027 |
| Toronto (YYZ) to Roatan (RTB) | Weekly on Sundays | December 13, 2026 to April 11, 2027 |
| Toronto (YYZ) to Guatemala City (GUA) | Weekly on Thursdays | Starts December 1, 2026; planned year-round |
What the numbers say
Guatemala's tourism authority, INGUAT, reported 3,361,843 non-resident visitors in 2025, up 11 percent from the year before, generating about US$1.39 billion in foreign-exchange earnings. Canadians are a growing part of that picture: 41,447 Canadian visitors in 2025, up 5 percent, with another 31,475 arriving between January and July 2026. On the Honduran side, the new Air Canada seats arrive alongside existing Canadian leisure traffic: WestJet and Sunwing are keeping Roatan on their seasonal schedules from Toronto and Quebec City, with flights starting in November and December.
If you run a hotel in Roatan
Canadian winter travelers plan early and stay longer than the average Caribbean visitor. That makes the December to April window worth a dedicated offer: reef and dive packages, and rates built for stays of a week or more. Publish those now, because the schedule is already public and the planners are already looking.
There is one product worth selling before guests even land: the round trip from the airport. Partner with a local private transport or taxi company, agree a fixed price, and quote it in dollars and lempiras at the moment of booking. It is a small line item that answers the biggest arrival-day question, and it keeps the commission in the local economy instead of with a rideshare app.
If you run a hotel in Guatemala
A year-round Toronto connection changes the math for Antigua, Lake Atitlan, and Tikal itineraries. This is not a seasonal charter, it is a standing link from Canada's largest city, which means multi-day packages have a buyer twelve months a year. Build the three or four night circuit, and make sure your property is visible where Canadians shop: the OTA channels where these new flights are being booked.
Never package or sell the flight itself; that is the airline's business. Your job is the nights around it.
What to do before December
- Confirm your reef, dive, or multi-day itineraries are bookable now, not "on request"
- Publish long-stay rates for the December to April window
- Set up a fixed-price airport transfer partnership and pre-sell the round trip at booking
- Check your OTA listings, photos, and availability for the new routes' home markets
A closing note
These routes are published and on sale as of October 2026, so the guests they carry are already planning their trips. The hotels that win them will be the ones that were ready before the first flight landed. Getting listed on the right OTA channels matters here, and Recama is one route for small hotels that want help with it; the groundwork itself is yours to do this week.
